In the fall of 2010 in the Columbia, South Carolina area, old time musicians Harrison Croft and Tyson Graham were looking
for other folks to play old time music with locally. Ashley Carder, who had been on the old time music scene in the early 1980s,
was introduced to Harrison and Tyson by a mutual friend, Bibi Freer. Around the same time, Ashley met fiddler Kristen Harris, who
had just moved to Columbia from the west coast. They all got together and started a successful old time jam at a local coffee shop.
The four started an old time string band, Old Growth, and began playing shows around the Columbia area. They were soon joined by fiddler and
dancer Julie Chiles.
In early 2011, the band recorded some songs during a few sessions at the homes of Harrison, Tyson, and Ashley. This
CD is the result of those sessions. By late 2011 the band has dissolved because band members had other commitments or had to move away
from the Columbia area. This CD preserves the music of Old Growth, one of the finest little old time bands ever to come out of the
state of South Carolina.
In the years following the recording of this CD, Kristen Harris became the 2013 South Carolina State Fiddling Champion
and Ashley Carder received the 2012 South Carolina Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award for preserving South Carolina's
